Literally nothing about Jerry Narron is flamboyant.

A proud native of Goldsboro, N.C., the baseball lifer speaks thoughtfully in a baritone drawl, every word measured and delivered with care. The 60-year-old former manager of the Texas Rangers and Cincinnati Reds is the kind of guy who seems content to blend into the background in just about any setting.
About the only quirky aspect of the well-respected coach’s personality in the game is a decidedly un-baseball skill: calligraphy, which he has long employed to create the most attractive lineup cards in the game.
So it was something of a departure when Narron reported for his new job as manager of the Triple-A Reno Aces on Wednesday in a jacket that would not be described as understated.
Game Brian Cushing Jersey Nobody even came close to matching Nationals third baseman Anthony Rendon’s success Sunday. Rendon went 6 for 6 with five runs scored, three home runs and 10 RBIs. His ridiculous RBI total was two off an MLB single-game record.
The Nationals ultimately beat the Mets 23-5 on the strength of seven home runs as a team. Rendon had zero home runs and five RBIs entering Sunday’s game. He definitely got back on pace for his normal averages with this outburst.
McCown was cut by the Browns in February but visited the Cowboys within a month of being released. The veteran journeyman had been a potential target for Dallas via trade last year after Kellen Moore broke his ankle early in camp, though Cleveland’s price was too high. Now with Tony Romo on the way out and Dak Prescott on the rise, the Cowboys wouldn’t mind seeing McCown mentor the young star. They’re still interested in the veteran.

It’s about at least one team in the market for a quarterback, the Giants, with a coach who’s on the record as being disappointed in Kaepernick’s protest (at the same time he eagerly defended a kicker who abused his wife). The two signings they made essentially scream, Anybody But Kaepernick.

And it’s about one nameless AFC general manager who took this to its furthest extreme and told Bleacher Report that he’s afraid Trump will tweet about the team, and that some teams want no part of that kind of attention.
Imagine that. Kaepernick was the one labeled a coward in so many places for so many reasons last season — including, implausibly, for making it known that he would no longer do the same protest at games next season.
That marked Kaepernick a coward, yet teams are scared of a hot take from the president, and let that guide their football decisions.
Tigers catcher John Hicks went 3 for 5 with five RBIs in Detroit’s 13-4 win over the Twins. Hicks put an exclamation on the victory with a three-run homer in the top of the ninth.
Also driving in five runs on Sunday was Seattle’s Nelson Cruz, who went 2 for 4 with a three-run homer in Seattle’s 11-1 victory over the A’s. Mariners shortstop Taylor Motter was 2 for 5 with a third-inning grand slam that gave Seattle a 6-0 lead.
Daniel Murphy blasted a grand slam in the first inning of the Nationals’ 6-3 win over the Mets. It was Murphy’s only hit of the game, but those four runs were all Nationals starter Max Scherzer needed. Scherzer struck out nine with just one walk and allowed three runs off five hits in eight solid innings.
Durant is arguably the best scorer on the planet. He only played in two games in Golden State’s first-round series against Portland, but he scored 32 in Game 1. He’s an assassin patiently waiting for his next victim.
Hayward will be tasked with attempting to stop Durant on one end and trying to score on him (and the swarming Warriors’ defense) on the other. The Jazz wing is no scrub — he proved as much earning the first All-Star nod of his career this season. But there are levels to this basketball stuff, and Durant’s on another one.
Whether Hayward can get a handle on the All-world scorer could determine the series before it even starts.
Limited Kids Sterling Shepard Jersey Eastern Washington’s Cooper Kupp (of the Rams) and East Carolina’s Zay Jones (of the Bills) are in the same boat. Hansen played last season in Sonny Dykes’ air raid offense at Cal, in a scheme that emphasized quick distribution to wide receivers. A receiver’s numbers balloon in a system like that. But the point, for Hansen, is that he can play anywhere the Jets ask him to play, and in whichever type of offense.
I think there’s always a knock on receivers that only play in like an air raid, spread offense, Hansen says. I think there is some truth to that. We don’t have the ability to run the full route tree like the NFL does, and that, I think, hurts you as a receiver in the offense.
But as a receiver, the objective of the position is to catch balls and make plays. I think no matter where you do that or what offense you do that in, it’s gonna translate. I think that’s something that I was able to show, that I was able to catch balls and make plays.
Even if those numbers were inflated, it still shows that I’m extremely productive in any type of offense that you put me in.

There’s at least one area in which the air raid should help, not hurt, his draft stock.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell doubled down on his stance on marijuana use in the NFL on ESPN Radio’s Mike and Mike on Friday morning.
He has long been against use of marijuana in the NFL, both from a recreational and medicinal standpoint, and said as much at the Walter Payton Man of the Year forum in February.
The former Chiefs and Falcons tight end left his job at CBS in March citing travel reasons as his means of departure. He spent three years with CBS on “The NFL Today,” which is filmed in New York. But Gonzalez lives in Los Angeles, where “Fox NFL Sunday” is filmed.
“I have had an incredible and rewarding three years at CBS and wish it could be more, but traveling to New York each week during the season is not what is best for my family at this time,” Gonzalez stated in March. “While I hope to remain in broadcasting I will look to do so in the L.A. area. I can’t thank CBS enough for their support.”
It’s a lateral move for Gonzalez, but one that requires far less travel and headaches. Gonzalez will join fellow former NFL players Terry Bradshaw and Howie Long on Fox’s weekly NFL Sunday program.
“I can’t wait for this upcoming season to get underway and begin working with the Fox Sports family,” Gonzalez said in statement provided by Fox. “It’s a great opportunity for me to continue sharing my passion for the game while remaining close to home.”
To his credit, Ogden did a lot right before and after his construction company, Kayden Premiere Enterprises, went bankrupt in 2013. That includes — although it’s nothing he feels entitled to brag about — doing it without coming to his big brother for help, not to start him off or to rescue him. The two are as close as siblings can be and always have been (Marques’ company name combined the names of Jonathan’s children).
But, Marques said, “That’s not his place, and that’s not my place as the younger brother to say, ‘Hey Jonathan, come save me.’

And, really, there’s no downside to establishing harsher penalties. MLB wouldn’t be looking at a situation where it’s handing out multiple month-long suspensions every week for the next five years. Once the rule is established and a couple of guys are forced to sit that long, this stupidity would stop. Not only because players don’t want to miss a month, but because that hurts the team, too.
Using Barnes again as the example: If he misses only the two relief appearances for throwing up near Machado’s head, that’s not a big deal at all. Where’s the risk? But if he’s out a month? He’s a pretty important piece of that bullpen mix, and his absence would put more stress on the other relievers. That hurts Boston, big time. Suddenly it becomes really damn important to keep that purpose pitch below the shoulders.
An ounce of prevention instead of a pound of cure, y’know?

Staying in the fashion department, the Eagles submitted a proposal which, in their words, permits clubs to have an alternate helmet in a color to match their third uniform. This is a good proposal because many of the helmets don’t match teams’ alternate uniforms.
Take the Bengals last year for example. Their all-white Color Rush uniforms were widely praised because they were pretty awesome. But due to NFL rules they had to wear orange helmets, and it just looked awkward.
Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer was dominant on the hill in Thursday’s 4-2 win over the Diamondbacks. Scherzer struck out 11 and allowed just one run and two hits with two walks over seven innings. He also went 2 for 3 at the plate with an RBI single in the second inning to open the scoring.
Scherzer had both his changeup and slider working Thursday and is now 5-0 with a 2.41 ERA in six career starts against Diamondbacks.
Elite Womens Joshua Garnett Jersey Tom Telesco got a whole bunch of picks to try to prop up the window with QB Philip Rivers, and he also passed on taking a potential replacement for him. Although Williams and the offensive linemen were nice, the emphasis to try to catch up fast should have been on the defensive value first.
The Cowboys have added tight ends and slot receivers to their offense, but by next year, it might be time to replace Terrence Williams. Kirk will be in contention for the top receiver in 2018.
Hand makes it six Alabama players in this 2018 first-round projection, and that could be on the low side. Hand is a classic Alabama lineman who can play multiple spots with ideal size and upper-half strength.
Tyquan Lewis, DE, Ohio State: Lewis could be the highest-rated senior in next year’s draft class. The reigning Big Ten defensive lineman of the year is 6-4, 266 pounds, and has 27 1/2 tackles for loss and 16 1/2 sacks over his career.

Mike McGlinchey, OT, Notre Dame: McGlinchey will leave Notre Dame as a four-year starter and could be the first offensive lineman taken next year. He is technically sound and is very athletic for someone who is 6-7, 310 pounds.
Minkah Fitzpatrick, CB, Alabama: The 6-1, 203-pound Fitzpatrick was a first-team All-American as a sophomore after picking off six passes and returning two for scores. He also returned both of his interceptions as a freshman for touchdowns.
Seeing promising moves turn to dust every season is exhausting for everybody, and it’s on Coughlin, Bortles, coach Doug Marrone, general manager Dave Caldwell and the entire organization to make them pay off. Maybe not this very season, but not long after that.

This looks like another good draft: Leonard Fournette and Cam Robinson in the first 34 picks, the talented-but-polarizing Dede Westbrook in the fourth round. They have to hit the ground running.
Last year’s picks have to do the same: Jalen Ramsey, Yannick Ngakoue and Myles Jack. So does the previous year’s pick whose rookie year was delayed until last year, Dante Fowler.
And, of course, so do all the free-agent signings, starting with Calais Campbell, A.J. Bouye and Barry Church, and working backwards to the hauls of previous years, like Malik Jackson and Tashaun Gipson.
The Bears signed former Buccaneers QB Mike Glennon to take over for Jay Cutler, who was released last month. The 6-6 Glennon, who has thrown for 4,100 yards with 30 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in 18 starts, signed a three-year, $45 million contract with the Bears last month.
Chicago clearly wanted to move in front of the Jets, who could have been in discussion with the Niners to move up from the No. 6 spot.

The Jets sent six representatives to the UNC pro day, including new quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates. The Jets then flew Trubisky up to their facility for a private workout. Trubisky has tremendous upside, but the knock on Trubisky is a lack of experience with just 13 starts in one season as a starter.
Scot McCloughan is, quite understandably, getting rid of mementos from his tenure as the Redskins’ general manager — but he isn’t holding a grudge.
McCloughan’s wife, Jessica, tweeted Friday that she had listed her husband’s signature team-logo camouflage baseball cap on eBay.
Despite the colossal mistake, Romo kept fighting and birdied the 18th to finish with a 3-over 75.
This wasn’t Romo’s first foray into U.S. Open qualifying. The scratch golfer advanced through a local U.S. Open qualifier in 2010. He shot a 71 in the first round of the 36-hole sectional qualifier, but he started his second round 8-over through three holes.
Unfortunately Romo’s dreams were dashed, along with a number of other aspiring golfers. It was always a long shot though because only an estimated 55 players will advance through sectional qualifying (the next round) to the June 15-18 U.S. Open.
Romo will be in the booth this upcoming NFL season for CBS as their lead NFL game analyst with Jim Nantz for Sunday afternoon games and “Thursday Night Football.”
Despite another deep playoff run for New England, it seemed like that this was the year the Patriots would lose at least half of the offensive-defensive coordinator combination they’ve had intact since 2012. Instead, Belichick’s top lieutenants are still around, maybe sensing that one of them will be in great position to succeed Belichick soon.
Look at that in contrast to the NFC champion Falcons, who lost Kyle Shanahan to the 49ers job and fired defensive coordinator Richard Smith after they blew the Super Bowl lead.
After a pair of road losses, the Oklahoma City Thunder return home to Chesapeake Energy Center on Friday night to see if they can make a series out of their first-round NBA playoff matchup with the Houston Rockets.
The Spurs had absolutely no answer for the Rockets in Game 1, getting blown away by a final score of 126-99. Houston launched up 50 three-point attempts in the game, hitting 22 of them en route to its blowout victory.
San Antonio trailed by 30 points at the end of the first half and by as much as 39 points in the game. The Spurs have been inconsistent on offense this season, and if the first game of this series is any indication, they’ll need to fix that in a hurry.
Houston had itself a night in Game 1, setting a playoff record for both the most three-pointers ever made and attempted against the Spurs. Trevor Ariza led the way with a 5-for-10 night from behind the arc, leading the team in scoring with 23 points.
The Rockets’ huge lead after the first half allowed James Harden to get some rare in-game rest — he was only needed for 31 minutes of play. The win brought Houston’s postseason record to 5-1 SU and 4-2 ATS, with 115 points per game over that stretch.

Fortunately for the Spurs, Monday night’s disastrous series opener only counts as one loss in this best-of-seven series. Gregg Popovich is one of the best head coaches in the NBA, and it will be interesting to see what adjustments he makes to counteract Houston’s offensive attack in Game 2.
It’s common for NBA players to lose their shoes in pursuit of the ball. It happens when players are trying to be at the same place at the same time and accidentally step on each other.
That’s not what happened between Brandon Jennings and Terry Rozier.
Jennings actually went over and made sure Rozier couldn’t get his shoe back on right away in the most Brandon Jennings way possible.
Just last month, Jennings allowed Rozier to run him over to draw a foul. This is what he does, and he does it well.

And while Shattenkirk has a nice enough heat map, you’ll notice his chances and expected goals aren’t quite as lovely as his shots. Some things are getting through. And how much of it is his super-defensive partner, Carl Gunnarsson?
None of this means that Shattenkirk is a bad player. It only means that you can expect him to be not quite as good in a different environment. If you pair him with Jake Gardiner, whose heat map looks like a supernova exploded in the high slot, you might find they underperform their doubtless-excellent CF%. Maybe you’re okay with that¡ªafter all, if you’re putting up 60-40 shot splits on your top pairing, you’re still probably going to win a lot of hockey games, even if the 40% of shots against you are dangerous. Quantity, in the end, rules. But can Shattenkirk guarantee that level of excellence will follow him from a Hitchcock-trained club in St. Louis (via Washington) to firecracker Toronto?
